I knew Steve well. He was a shy guy, but always laughed a lot. I liked him, I could always make him laugh. We were friends. He was a good baseball player, great fielder. Batted lefty, even though he was right-handed. For some reason, I remember his baseball glove to this day. It was deep and well-oiled. His nickname was "Beaver."
He was a changed guy after 'Nam. I remember the way his little brother used to look after him when he got back. That touched me. Makes me sad. He was the kind of guy you pulled for.
