In Loving Memory of Gerrit Nudo

Eulogy written and delivered

by Ron Cannatella

November 26,2007

Webster’s dictionary defines the word extraordinary as going beyond what is usual, regular, or customary and exceptional to a very marked extent. A photo of Gerrit should appear next to the definition of extraordinary, because he was the embodiment of the word in every way.

He was a winner in the truest sense of the word, and always rose to the top as a champion in everything he ever did. He was a cross between Albert Einstein, Ronald Reagan, Santa Claus and the Mad Hatter. He was as tough as John Wayne, as handy as Bob Vila and as funny as all of The Marx Brothers rolled into one!

He had a big heart and an even bigger appetite and did everything on a larger than life scale! Gerrit was a culinary artist and a chef in his own right. Eating was one of his favorite activities…and he was an eater of epic and Olympic proportions!

In his lifetime, he probably ate enough pasta to fill the Grand Canyon. He’d usually eat from a serving bowl because a regular plate just wasn’t big enough for him. Gerrit loved to joke in restaurants that he’d like to order the entire menu mixed in a bucket!

Everything that he did became an event and his world revolved around the family. He was the absolute center of our family and a true gift from God to all of us here today.

Gerrit was ever constantly using his many talents to make this world a better place for everyone. He would do anything and everything for EVERYBODY that he knew!

He gave his most important gifts…his talent and his TIME… back to all of us every day of his life. Time spent with him was a well spent treasure trove of every known emotion and the basis for millions of cherished memories.

When we lost Gerrit, all of his goodness and all of the great times that we had with him in days past played out in my mind. I can’t imagine a world without him, but he will always be alive and well…living on forever in our hearts and our memories. In truth, he was simply TOO GOOD for this imperfect world.
